Have you ever tried reading through the Old Testament, only to find yourself stalled at Leviticus? Or wondering what’s the difference between the Exodus and the Exile? What are all those prophets complaining about? And why does God seem so angry all the time?

Together we will take a trip through the Old Testament! Come explore the history of Israel as it is told in sacred scripture and trace the evolving understanding of who God is and what it means to be the people of God.

Discover and embrace a way of reading the Old Testament that allows us to interpret the “difficult” passages in a way that affirms both the merciful and loving nature of God and the joy of knowing that God acts in history to bring salvation to all creation.

PRESENTER

Born and raised in Saskatoon, Deb Rolfes has graduate degrees in English literature and Hebrew Scripture. She presented in the Lay Formation Program in Saskatoon and taught for the Deaconate programs in Prince Albert and Regina dioceses. Since 2012 she has been a sessional faculty member at Newman School of Theology in Edmonton, for whom she teaches Introduction to the Old Testament in the Master of Religious Education (MRE) program. Deb has also organized and led three pilgrimages to the Holy Land. 

In her other career, Deb is a faculty member of the University of Saskatchewan and is currently Director of the Ron and Jane Graham School of Professional Development in the College of Engineering where she teaches communication.
