Gardening & Spirituality Series

Event Details

God communicates through creation—trying to speak into our lives; to plant in us a garden. God is generously and graciously sowing seed in all kinds of places; urging us to be receptive and open to new growth. This 5-week gardening & spirituality series will combine spiritual reflections with hands-on good gardening practices. Learn more about drought tolerance and healthy soil development, via mulching, composting, no-till, and other regenerative agriculture knowledge. Learn how the earth can teach us about our deepest selves, our relationship with God, and to the world around us.

FACILITATOR

Clint Porritt has 25+ years of faith formation experience through teaching, spiritual direction, and program development. He enjoys "making soil" as part of his work with Star Cooperative Garden: a food security project developed around the ecologically sustainable practices of organic, deep-mulch, no-till gardening.

LOCATION
This group will be primarily meeting outdoors in the white gazebo and in the Star Garden & Greenhouse. If the weather is poor, we’ll make other arrangements. The easiest gazebo access is IN through the main entrance of the Star, and OUT through the foyer doors opposite the main doors.

WHAT TO BRING/WEAR
Please dress for the work and the weather. If there is rain or wind in the forecast, bring appropriate layers. Wear clothes that are comfortable and able to get a little dirty. Sturdy shoes, sunscreen, a water bottle, a notebook & pen are recommended. Garden gloves are optional. Depending on the wildfire situation, a smoke mask might also be good.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Our evenings together will be a mix of conversation, ritual & reflection, learning, and some hand’s on gardening. A typical evening schedule might look like this:

6:30 PM – Opening Reflection
7:00 PM – Personal Time
7:15 PM – Regather: Sharing & Snack
7:30 PM – Earth-Learning
7:45 PM – Hand’s On
