An Advent Contemplative Prayer Retreat

Are you craving a time of stillness in this busy season? Have you been drawn to connect with your spiritual life but aren’t quite sure how or when to do this? As a time of expectant waiting and hope, Advent is the perfect time to do this!  And the practice of Centering Prayer is also an experience of waiting in love for the holy to arrive.  This retreat will begin with an in-depth introduction to the practice with the remainder of the weekend dedicated to periods of Centering Prayer interspersed with further teaching and collective reflection on the contemplative journey.  People of any or no religious tradition are welcome: the benefits of silence are open to all!   

PRESENTERS

Mary Jane Yates Having spent her childhood immersed in the rich culture and landscapes of rural West Africa, Mary Jane continues to pursue her lifelong passion of not just knowing the world, but of knowing it more deeply.  She was introduced to the teachings of Fr. Thomas Keating and the practice of Centering Prayer in 2007 and since then has been active in leading small groups and retreats in the Canadian contemplative network.  She holds an MSc in Health Promotion and completed her training as a Nature and Forest Therapy guide in 2019.  Recently retired from her position as Administrator with Contemplative Outreach International, she now dedicates her time to sharing her passion for the contemplative life with others living in the Treaty 6 First Nations territory of Alberta, Canada. 

Heather Mattson McCrady has been on a contemplative spiritual path for many years. She has a Masters of Theological Studies in Spirituality, a certificate in Spiritual Direction / Companioning, and recently completed a year long Eco-ministry certificate. Retired from a career in healthcare: Volunteer Management, Patient and Family Centred Care and Community Engagement, she now describes herself as a Being of the Natural Order, and Wild Christ Monastic.
