Star Gazer W36

Star of the North Celebrates the Season of Creation

Season of Creation (www.seasonofcreation.org) begins on September 1st, World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, and ends on October 4, the feast of St. Francis of Assisi. This is a time of grace that the Church, in ecumenical dialogue, offers to humanity to renew its relationship with the Creator and creation, through celebration, conversion and commitment together.

This year, the Star bookends this special season with two unique programs:

  • Saturday, September 7 (10:00 am to 2:00 pm)
Listening to the Water: Stewarding the Sturgeon River Watershed

Make plans to join us this Saturday for a special time of learning and ritual around the theme of water, that includes a community luncheon and reflective river walk. RSVP now at www.starofthenorth.ca/water or call 780-459-5511. Registration closes at 4 pm on Friday, September 6th.
  • Friday, September 27 (7:00 pm) to Sunday, September 29 (1:00 pm)
Earthkeeping in the Way of Jesus:  The Story of Creation & Our Place in It

What does Scripture have to say about ecological issues like biodiversity loss and climate change? Does God care? What do these concerns have to do with following Jesus? Is there hope to be had in such troubled times? Join this weekend retreat with Education Director Rick Faw of A Rocha Canada in exploring the story of creation and discerning a way forward that is faithful to our human calling and the Spirit’s ongoing work at this moment in history. Find out more at www.starofthenorth.ca/care or call 780-459-5511.

Regular Programs You May Have Forgotten About

Here’s three regularly scheduled Star programs that continue faithfully along, that seem to sometimes fly under the radar. We’re grateful for Jerry Moran, Wanda Lehman, and + Sylvain Lavoie for their committed service through these programs over the years.

  • Centering Prayer Group meets in our chapel for one hour each week in order to grow in the practice of contemplative prayer. The first gathering, under the direction of Jerry Moran, is this Tuesday, September 10 from 2:00 to 3:00 pm. Call us at 780-459-5511 for more information.
  • Coping With Loss Bereavement Group meets twice a year (fall/spring) with facilitator and educator Wanda Lehman. Our next group starts this Wednesday, September 11 (1:00 - 2:30 pm). Visit www.starofthenorth.ca/bereavement for more information.

  • Twilight Recovery Evenings are monthly times of support group sharing, healing, and prayer, open to anyone in a 12-step program or loving someone is on that journey. Our next gathering is Thursday, September 12 (7:00 - 8:30 pm). Contact + Sylvain Lavoie at 780-459-5511 for more information.
